Wellness Wednesday: Strawberry Coconut Water Smoothie

Even if you don't have a lot of time to spend on your health each week, making a morning smoothie is a wonderful way to pack a bunch of great nutrients into one delicious beverage. And while I usually use nut milks in my morning smoothies, along with some kind of antioxidant (like berries) and a booster (such as flax meal, hemp seeds, or maca powder), I wanted to switch things up a bit this week.

Instead of using almond milk or another plant milk, I decided to increase my electrolyte intake by adding coconut water in place of milk. Just one cup of coconut water contains 600 mg of potassium, a type of electrolyte responsible for balancing fluids in the body and regulating contractions in the muscles and heart.

Adding coconut water took my morning smoothie to a whole new level! Try it for yourself and see what you think.

What You Need (Makes Two Smoothies)

  • 1 cup coconut water, unsweetened
  • 1 cup fresh strawberries
  • 1 banana, peeled
  • 1 small orange, peeled
  • 2 tbs flax meal
  • 1 cup organic rolled oats

How to Make This Strawberry Coconut Water Smoothie

  1. Add each item to your blender
  2. Blend on high for about a minute
  3. Pour into glasses and enjoy
